The 18th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG 2024) was held in Gdynia (Poland) from June 24 to 26, 2024. This is one of the flagship conferences organized by the Industrial Electronics Society (IES) devoted to sharing new ideas, presenting results of research, and work in progress within the fields of power electronics, renewable energy integration, power generation, transmission and distribution, power systems, electro-mechanical energy conversion, automation, and EMC/EMI issues.

The local organizer was Gdynia Maritime University, which is the largest maritime university in the European Union. The venue of the conference was the Mercure Hotel in Gdynia. The Organizing Committee of the conference was chaired by Krzysztof Górecki – the Chair and Paweł Górecki – the Co-Chair from Gdynia Maritime University, Poland. The Honorary Chair was Mariusz Malinowski from Warsaw University of Technology, Poland. The Honorary Co-Chairs were Ryszard Strzelecki from Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland and Joao Martins from Nova School of Science and Technology, Portugal. The Finance Chair was Kalina Detka with Gdynia Maritime University, Poland.
The conference was actively attended by 101 people from 23 countries located in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America.

Total of 106 papers were submitted to the conference, of which 76 were presented at the conference. These papers were authored by 213 scientists. These papers are available in the IEEE Xplore database.
In addition to the submitted papers, five invited speakers also gave lectures as keynote speakers:

  • Dmitri Vinnikov, Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia, “Power electronics as the enabling technology for buildings decarbonisation”.

In addition to the regular sessions, 3 special sessions were successfully organized:

  • Power Electronics for End-to-End DC Networks organized by Edivan Laercio Carvalho, Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia and Satish Naik Banavath, Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad;
  • DC Transitional Technologies and Advanced Controls in Microgrids organized by Carlos Roncero-Clemente, University of Extremadura, Spain and Oleksandr Husev, Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia;
  • Advanced Control Techniques for Power Electronics Converters organized by Naki Guler, Gazi University, Turkey, Sertac Bayhan, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar and Ugur Fesli, Gazi University, Turkey.

As part of the conference, a competition for the best presentation was held. The selection was made by a jury composed of session chairmen. As a result of the vote, the prizes funded by the Electronics magazine were awarded to:

  • Ciro Scognamillo from University of Naples Federico II, Italy,
  • Luis Ignacio Martinez Caballero from Warsaw University of Technology, Poland.

During the conference, the Student and Young Professional Meeting was also organized. The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by, among others, the President of the city Gdynia – Aleksandra Kosiorek and the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University – professor Adam Weintrit. The Welcome Party took place on the board of the training sailing ship of Gdynia Maritime University – Dar Młodzieży in the presence of the Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit.

As part of the social event, the conference participants visited the Naval Museum in Gdynia and the naval destroyer ORP Błyskawica, World War II veteran. More details are to be found on the conference website https://cpe-powereng2024.umg. edu.pl/.
The CPE-POWERENG 2024 Conference was the excellent platform to exchange new ideas in the area of power electronics and power generation and to network. The next edition of CPE-POWERENG will be held in Atalya, Turkey in 2025 and chaired by Sertac Bayhan, Haitham Abu-Rub and Naki Guler.
