Prof. Yang Shi, Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, has been elevated to the grade of Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) class of 2025. One of the highest honours in science in Canada.

One hundred and two new Fellows have been elected by their peers for their outstanding scholarly achievements. This recognition by the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) is the highest honour in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences.

“The Royal Society of Canada is delighted to welcome into its ranks a talented group of inspiring researchers, artists, and creators whose peers have recognized their exceptional contributions to the world of science and culture, as well as to the well-being of Canadians. Their research will continue to influence public policy for years to come, while improving the well-being of our society,” said Alain-G. Gagnon, FRSC, President of the RSC.

On Friday, November 14, 2025, the RSC will induct Yang Shi and the 2025 Fellows and Members of the RSC College at a ceremony as part of the Celebration of Excellence and Engagement in Montréal, Québec.

Yang Shi, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering University of Victoria

Yang Shi is a world-renowned scholar, widely recognized for his seminal contributions to networked and distributed control, model predictive control, and cyber-physical systems. His pioneering work has enabled technologies for aerial and marine vehicles, mechatronics and robotics, and industrial automation. He is a Fellow of CAE, EIC, IEEE, ASME, CSME. He served the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society as Vice-President. He is IFAC Council Member and Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics.
