Starting in January 2025, Yang Shi is the new Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (TIE) and Samir Kouro is the new Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine (IEM). Yang ShiYang Shi

Editor-in-Chief of the Transactions on Industrial Electronics for a three-year term (2025-2027)  

Yang Shi received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in the School of Marine Science and Technology from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an, China, in 1994 and 1998, respectively, and the second Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada, in 2005. From 2005 to 2009, he was an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada. In 2009, he joined the University of Victoria, and now he is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Victoria (UVic), Victoria, BC, Canada. His current research interests include networked and distributed systems, model predictive control (MPC), cyber-physical systems (CPS), robotics and mechatronics, navigation and control of autonomous systems (AUV and UAV), and energy system applications. He has published over 250 journal articles and 4 books. Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomas Reuters) has named him Highly Cited Researcher every year between 2014-2022.

As an outstanding educator, Prof. Shi received the University of Saskatchewan Student Union Teaching Excellence Award in 2007, and the Faculty of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award in 2012 at UVic. His research has been recognized by many awards: the JSPS Invitation Fellowship (short-term) in 2013, the UVic Craigdarroch Medal for Excellence in Research in 2015, the 2017 IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems Outstanding Paper Award, the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers in 2018, the CSME Mechatronics Medal in 2023. Prof. Shi is a passionate volunteer in professional societies. He is currently a Council Member of International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). He serves as Vice-President on Conference Activities of IEEE IES (2022-2023) and the Chair of IES Technical Committee on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (2018-2022). He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (2018-2023); he also serves as Associate Editor for Automatica, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, etc.
Prof. Shi is a Fellow of IEEE, ASME, CSME, Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE). He is a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia, Canada.

 

Samir Kouro

Editor-in-Chief of the Industrial Electronics Magazine for a three-year term (2025-2027)  

Samir Kouro (Senior Member, IEEE) received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering from the Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria (UTFSM), Valparaiso, Chile, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. He joined the Department of Electronic Engineering in 2007, where he has been Associate Professor since 2014.
From 2009 to 2011, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, Canada. From 2022 to 2023, he was a Maria Zambrano Research Fellow with the Universidad de Sevilla, Sevilla, Spain. He is a founding member and Principal Investigator of the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E) and of the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC-Chile), both recognized as research centers of excellence in Chile. He has coauthored two books, 14 book chapters and over 250 refereed journal and conference papers.
He received the 2016 IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Bimal K. Bose Award for Industrial Electronics Applications in Energy Systems, the 2015 IEEE Industrial Electronics Society J. David Irwin Early Career Award, the 2012 IEEE Power Electronics Society Richard M. Bass Outstanding Young Power Electronics Engineer Award, and four IEEE Journals best paper awards.

 

IES would like to thank Emil Levi for his years of service as EIC of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics. Emil has stepped down at the end of 2024. He has been EIC since 2019.
