Success story of ETFA 2020 – the first hybrid IES conference in challenging times!

The 25th edition of the IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA) was held in Vienna from Sep. 8-11. Not only in Vienna, actually, but worldwide. The COVID pandemic necessitated to explore new ways and invent a new mode of operation. The lockdown period during spring and the lack of opportunities to meet in person created a strong wish within the community for a “real” conference. With a view to worldwide travel restrictions, going back to normal was of course unrealistic, and so the organizers decided to try a hybrid delivery: on site in Vienna for all ...

IES Membership Continues to Defy Corona Virus Effect!

Despite the global effect of Corona Virus, IES membership growth increased from +18% (Year-to-Year May 2020) to +21.5% (Year-to-Year June 2020) and further to +22.5% (Year-to-Year July 2020) with 1,584 new members within the 12 months period. That was in contrast with the continues decline of overall IEEE membership in the same time period (-5.5% Year-to-Year July 2020) and the other Division VI Societies. A great achievement of all IES volunteers and IES membership committee, lead by Prof. Yousef Ibrahim! Division VI Membership (Year-to-Year, updated on July 2020) ...

A unique testimony from our Vice-President Technical Activities: Prof. Roberto Oboe – join our technical committees at IEEE Industrial Electronics Society!

What makes the Industrial Electronics Society different from other Societies of the IEEE is its multidisciplinarity, stated in the Society’s Constitutions: “The Field of Interest of the IES shall be confined to the theory and applications of electronics, controls, communications, instrumentation and computational intelligence to industrial and manufacturing systems and process”. In an industrial scenario, different technologies concur to the functioning of complex systems and, now more than in the past, such technologies must be tightly integrated and coordinated, in order to achieve the best results, in terms of performance, reliability, efficiency etc. Developing science and technologies in many different ...
