The Women in IES Workshop at the 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE 2022) took place in Anchorage, Alaska, USA.
During this event, organized under the Women in IES initiative and chaired by Prof. Morgan Kiani from Texas Christian University, our members had the chance to attend two presentations:

Mercy Chelangat, an electrical engineer from Kenya who specializes in renewable energies, presented the joint efforts by IES and IEEE Smart Village (ISV) to bring electricity, education, and enterprise development to underserved communities. In her presentation “Women Engineers Empowering Off Grid Communities,” Chelangat highlighted how ISV projects are keen on empowering women in their communities of focus. This in turn will enhance quality of life, empower people, and augment outreach and membership of the IES in coming years.

The other invited speaker in the workshop, Ayda Akbelen, is the founder of Life Work Solutions, LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to helping professionals build satisfying careers. In her talk “Influential and a Leader in STEM Careers,” Akbelen presented another side of engineering professional life and explained how to facilitate a dialogue to uncover talents, needs, and wants at work. Her approach is empathetic yet pragmatic, asking the right questions to help our members to think creatively in dealing with workplace challenges.

The workshop is the result of the efforts of a number of strongly committed people who deserve full recognition: Morgan Kiani, Lucia Lo Bello, Seta Bogosyan, Yousef Ibrahim, Mariusz Malinowski, Milos Manic…
