Abstract:
With the growing demand for electric vehicles to fulfil the net zero emission target 2050, reduction of the CO2 footprint and GHG emission from the transportation sector, different e-mobility motor topologies, their design, cost, and sustainability have become critical research topics. To reduce the charging time, vehicle electrical architecture and Electric Drive Unit (EDU) are moving towards higher voltage system. For sustainable development, high torque and power-dense electrical machines are one of the standard demands in automotive. Consequently, an effective, and direct cooling system is adopted in the Electric Drive Unit of the propulsion system where the transmission fluid is shared with the coolant of the electrical machine.
High-voltage batteries and wide bandgap silicon carbide converters and high dv/dt together with oil cooling impose high pressure on the insulation system. To cope with the above-mentioned adversaries, the demand for innovative, reliable, compatible, and sustainable insulation is raised to ensure the lifetime and safe operation of the propulsion system.
In this webinar, an innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable conductor insulation system has been proposed. The solution is benchmarked with the standard state-of-the-art solutions in the market using an innovative test setup that can represent 800 V+ PWM supply with high dv/dt and considering the realistic environmental condition of the insulated wires.
