Abstract:
With the growing demand for Battery-driven Electric Vehicles (BEV) to reduce the CO2 footprint and GHG emissions from the transportation sector, high-voltage batteries and wide bandgap converters (silicon carbide/gallium nitride) are critical research areas to enable more efficient BEVs with reduced charging time. The automotive motors are squeezed into small sizes for increasing torque and power supported by advanced cooling solutions. The direct cooling system is adopted more and more in the Electric Drive Unit of the propulsion system where the transmission fluid is shared with the coolant of the electrical machine.
High-voltage supply systems, wide bandgap converters, and direct oil cooling impose high stresses on the insulation system. The durability of the high-voltage oil-compatible insulation system is required to ensure the lifetime and safe operation of the propulsion system. In this webinar, an insulation system is proposed and verified using an innovative test setup representing an 800 V+ PWM supply electrical machine.
