Relevance of Nuclear Power and SMRs in Indian Perspective

An IEEE Industrial Electronics Society eminent lecture on “Relevance of Nuclear Power and SMRs in Indian Perspective” was delivered by Shri K. N. Vyas, Former Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, Government of India on 2nd December 2023 from 1700 hrs to 1830 hours (IST). Shri M. K. Badapanda, Chair, IES Chapter, PELS Chapter and Industry Relations Committee of IEEE Madhya Pradesh Section, India welcomed the participants and gave a brief overview of the talk. Shri Shrikrishna Gupta, a Raja Ramanna Fellow, gave the brief introduction of the eminent speaker. Shri K. N. Vyas pointed out that nuclear power is vital in Indian perspective for shifting energy transitions from predominantly fossil to non-fossil clean energy base-load power generation. He also stressed the need for enhancing nuclear power generation to achieve net zero target and discussed various SMR designs and technologies feasible in Indian perspective. This lecture was attended through WebEx by more than 150 participants from various countries including eminent personalities and well appreciated. YouTube live streaming of this event was also done, where additional 50 participants joined. Prof Anamika Yadav & Shri Akhilesh Tripathi took up the Q&A session and Prof Savita Nema presented vote of thanks on this event.
